Cat calls
Two nights ago I was on the computer and hubby was watching tv. I thought I heard a noise, so I tried to listen more closely. After a couple more minutes went by I heard it again. It sounded like a cat crying. Hubby asked what was wrong and I asked him if he heard the noise. He hadn’t heard it before I pointed out, but within a minute or two he heard it as well. (At that point I was glad someone else heard it because that meant I wasn’t crazy.) Hubby and I made sure everything was off or muted in the house and began trying to locate the source of the noise. Every time one of us moved closer to the noise the noise seemed to move. We split and went to opposite ends of the house and both thought it seemed like the sound came from underneath the house somewhere near the middle. By that point it was after 11pm. Hubby went outside and looked around the house but saw nothing. He even checked the little door that leads to the crawl space. Nothing. No cats were sighted and the crying stopped. Hubby was concerned from the sound that a cat was stuck somewhere giving birth. I figured it was either a cat who was lost and confused, or a cat who was calling in heat. (For one moment I also wondered if cats ever had pms, or if their bodies made progesterone.) We have heard no further cat crying since. Last night my Mom, who lives nearby, also heard a cat calling. I think it was the same one and it’s a lost cat trying to find it’s way home.
