Free 411
Unless you’ve got a calling plan at home that includes directory assistance, you probably don’t call 411 much. And I don’t know anyone who calls 411 from their cell phone unless it’s an absolute last resort. That’s why I was very interested to learn about a free directory assistance service called Free 411.
Free 411 is an automated voice directory information system that can be used from a land line or a mobile phone. There is no registration required and no fees to join. to use it just dial 1-800-373-3411. The system is paid for by advertising. Before receiving the information you’re requesting all you need to do is listen to a 10 second ad. And if you stay on the line after getting the phone number you can also get directions to that location. This sounds very cool! Have any of you tried it? I’d love to hear how you liked it.

I use 411 all the time or at least I used to until I realized how much it was costing me…$1.50 adds up quick! I had heard about the number you mentioned 800-373-3411 and gave it a try a few times, as well as some others that I ran across on the net but I found that I didn’t like these free services since I was never given the option to speak with a person. I consider myself a pretty good techy kind of person but for some reason I’m just not very good at getting these automated machines to understand what I ask for.
I ran across an article on CNET that highlighted another free 411 service called 1-800-411-SAVE and I have been using it ever since. This service is amazing!! The service is my favorite because the entire thing is done by live people and not machines, I use it all the time and have recommended to everyone I know.

Don’t think for a second that “Ruth” isn’t somehow affiliated with Save-411. He/she was obviously paid to spam your comment section.

James - Thanks for the reply. Anything is possible. But since Ruth doesn’t have a link it isn’t hurting me any. 800-411-save is a real service that someone might benefit from.
