How to spend less on a purebred pet
Check rescues. Many rescues specialize in rescuing, placing and fostering specific breeds. We got our Siberian Husky from a rescue. We donated a reasonable fee, less than we’d pay if we’d bought from a breeder. People have asked me why I recommend getting a pet through a rescue instead of buying from a breeder and this is what I tell them.
Rescues typically only deal with one or two breeds, so they’re very familiar with the breeds typical traits and characteristics.
Rescue animals are often fostered, which means people have spent quality time with them. Not only does this help the pet adjust and keep him out of a shelter but it allows someone to observe the pet and become aware of it’s temperament and habits.
You could be saving an animal’s life.
There’s an excellent chance the animal will already be or will be getting spayed or neutered before the adoption is finalized, saving you money.
If you rescue a slightly older dog, no potty training!
We had a very favorable experience rescuing our dog, and I have encountered a number of other people who felt the same. Have you ever considered rescuing an animal?
