Largest US beef recall in history announced
I read today on CNN about the largest ever beef recall in the United States. 143 million pounds of frozen beef have been ordered to be recalled by the US Department of Agriculture. The frozen beef all came from the Westland Hallmark Meat Company slaughterhouse in Southern California that mistreated the cattle. Video was taken undercover showing the abuse of downed (sick and crippled) cattle. By law, downed cattle are not to be allowed into the food supply because they have a higher risk of being contaminated by E. coli, salmonella and mad cow disease because they have weak immune systems and are unable to get out of their own waste. When cattle can no longer move around on their own the vet is supposed to be called to inspect them. As these cows were not properly inspected, they were declared not fit for human consumption. Fedeeral authorities have suspended operations at the slaughterhouse while the investigation goes on. The article includes some of the undercover video footage, which I watched part of and found so very disturbing and cruel that I had to stop it. This is the list of products in the recall of beef products from the Westland Hallmark Meat Company.

jerzy, I agree. It was so awful I started getting tears in my eyes and couldn’t watch any more. True justice would be if the things they did were done to them.

How could anyone do such awful things to an animal? Their phone number is 909-591-0163 should anyone want to call and voice opinions. Surely, bad luck will come their way. What goes around, comes around. I hope they burn for what they have done and for all of them who knew it and did not take a stand. I’m glad I don’t have to stoop that low for a job.

By the way, where is PETA when you need them?

Animal Lover - True. People must have known and done nothing. I think PETA only gets involved when it’s convenient for them.

I am so saddened by the horrific abuse of the cows that has been going on at the Hallmark/Westland meat packing company resulting in the largest beef recall. What sickened me more than this was how the company responded to this recall. All they cared about was making sure that the world knows that the beef is safe, but did they even once acknowledge or take responsibility for the real crime here? The abuse of those poor creatures??? They absolutely did not. I am sickened that there are companies out there and people out there who think its ok to do this to another life.
One day they will answer to what they have done, but that is no consolation for the poor abused creatures that have been abused by these monsters or for all the poor animals out there who still get abused terribly by monsters that consider themselves part of the human race. I beg to differ. They are discusting monsters.

I am so sickened to see the video and to know that this Westland Hallmark Slaughter house found it fit to allow such horrific abuse to go on. I am even more sickened to find that they showed absolutely no concern that the animals were abused, not even a mention, all they cared about was trying to save face and tell the public that the meat is still safe. That is lower than it gets.
