On Family Pets Being Family
Did you ever receive a gift that was just so exquisite? One of my favorite gifts ever was a special personalized gift that my parents had made just for me. It was a sweatshirt that had caricatures of my husband, son and the cat. It was, at the time, the perfect gift. One of the things that had made it so appealing to me was that it had my cat on it. I’ve always thought of my cats as family/ I came across it recently when cleaning out a dresser. It no longer fit and the characters no longer represented my family but the shirt still tugged at my heart strings. I’m thinking about having one made for myself, complete with cat. Do you consider your pet as a family member?

Always have and always will. Our pets depend on us like our children do, so of course we treat them as one of the family.
It’s not hard to tell if someone is a “pet person” or not within five minutes of a conversation about yours. Either they act interested and then start sharing their own story or their eyes glaze over and wait for you to finish.

No, not to the extremes I think many people do now. I think animals are different then people. You love them, and if you have them you should take care of them; but they are animals not people. I think they can enrich people’s lives greatly, keep people from being lonely and add joy to one’s life; but they aren’t a family member like a spouse, son or daughter is.

Cool you found the sweatshirt though. You might enjoy keeping it by framing it. I’ve seen garments in like a shadow box; or cut the part that has the picture and frame that part.
