Don’t you love going to a good zoo? If you’ve never been to one I encourage you to take a day and do so. It doesn’t matter if you have children or not, you’ll have a blast. It’s amazing to see animals that you otherwise might not see live. The National Zoo in Washington DC is one of the well known zoos here in the US. They’ve put many live animal cams up, which means that no matter where you are you can get a glimpse of some of the National Zoo animals. Currently the cams they have up and running include an Amazon River Fish Cam, an Asian Small-clawed Otter Cam, a Black-footed Ferret Cam, Cheetah Cams, a Clouded Leopard Cam, a Fishing Cat Cam, a Flamingo Cam, a Gharial Cam, a Golden Lion Tamarin Cam, a Gorilla Cam, a Kiwi Cam, a Lion Cam, Micronesian Kingfisher Cam, a MicroTheatre Cam, a Naked Mole-Rat Cam, an Octopus Cam, an Orangutan Cam, Panda Cams, a Sloth Bear Cam and a Tiger Cam. Go check them out, they’re really neat. Happy viewing!

I am a great believer in adopting animals. There are so many unwanted animals out there that need homes and would make terrific pets. Adopting has numerous advantages over buying from a breeder. Petfinder is a website that offers a searchable database of animals that need homes and shelters, rescues and adoption groups within the United States, Canada and Mexico. The database is updated daily. If you’re looking for a pet, Petfinder should be the first place you look. Petfinder is free to use. I’ve added their search widget to one of my sidebars.

Petcentric is a social community by Purina especially for pet lovers. It offers listings of events, news, products, reviews and promotions. Members can share pictures of their own pets while making friends. Users can search for other users by dog, cat or person. Search parameters include zip code, state, breed, gender and age. My favorite part is the pet activities and interests. I bet this grows into a really fun site.

Jessica sent me a link to a Pet Celebrity Look Alike page over on the Petside website. If you haven’t seen these you ought to check them out, they’re fun. First you’re shown a picture of an animal and you’re supposed to guess what celebrity it looks like. Then you’re shown side by side pictures of the pet and the celebrity. Users that already have or create a My Petside account are even able to upload their own celebrity look alike pet pics. Thanks for sending me this link Jessica!

If you’re a regular reader you may have noticed that I’ve added a banner that will appear at the top of every page. The banner is for The Animal Rescue Site.
The Animal Rescue site provides people surfing the web with a free way to help provide food for shelter animals. One click of a button on the website helps provide food and care for the animals. Wondering how that happens? The funding comes from the site sponsors. And, all of the sponsor advertising fees from the website helps the animals as well. The funding goes to partner programs including the The Fund for Animals, Petfinder Foundation, North Shore Animal League, and other worthy animal rescue programs supported by GreaterGood.org.
I’ve placed the banner up there in the hopes that anyone visiting this site will take a moment and click to help the animals. It’s unbelievable how many animals there are in shelters. You can help these animals in many ways and clicking a button is probably the easiest one of all. People are encouraged to click once a day, every day. If you love animals and want to help them, get clicking!

One of the things I pay close attention to is regular prices and sale prices. When something is on sale all of the time I won’t pay retail for it. Why? I think that even when something is on sale it’s still possible to make a profit on it, just not as much as when it’s regular price. so when I see something on sale all of the time then I know they have lots of profit margin on that item and I’ll try to never buy it at full price again. One example is carpet. I used to work in a carpet store and there’s a lot of profit margin on carpet. Another example is soda. Nationwide brands go on sale here every other week. So I won’t buy them if they aren’t on sale. Some markets have changed over the years and become ultra competitive. An item that used to have a lot of profit margin is desktop and laptop memory, but the market is very competitive now so all of the major players keep their prices pretty low. So, when you’re getting ready to make a purchase spend time comparing prices and you won’t be sorry afterwards.

I wanted to share a site I found called The Giveaway Of The Day. Each day they give away one item for free. The giveaways are pieces of software, and according to the site they are full, legal versions that may be registered. As far as I can tell there’s no catch. On the weekends they also offer a Game Giveaway Of The Day. I haven’t downloaded anything yet, but I’m checking the site daily in case something I want or need is offered. Let me know if you’ve tried this site and how you like it.

I got a new laptop not long ago. Rennie, our female cat, couldn’t care less about it. But Shadow, our male cat, seemed to like it. Each time I used it he’d walk across the bottom part of the laptop underneath the keyboard, rubbing his head on me and making it so I couldn’t see the screen. He’d swat at my fingers sometimes when I used the trackpad. When I connected the yellow CAT5e cable from the laptop to the dsl modem it was playtime. He tried to play with that cable every time I was online with the laptop.I don’t think he’s as happy now, because we changed to a wireless modem so I could use the built in Airport and not have to connect. Yesterday he saw me put the laptop on the coffee table in the living room and he immediately looked for the yellow cable. After a few minutes he seemed to realize it wasn’t there and sort of tilted his head as if to say “where is it”. Now he’s just sitting next to me as if he’s waiting for it. Do you cats play with cables? Do they bug you when you’re on the computer?

If you’re like me you’re probably seen the boxes online that ask if you want to receive the free newsletter. Did you know that frequently if you sign up you will receive specials by email? These specials can save you a lot of money! I don’t sign up for all newsletters, because I get a lot of email already. But any company I buy from on a semi-regular or regular basis is one that I definitely want to receive email from. These companies send coupons and discount codes to their subscribers. One of my favorites is Roamans womens clothing, I get one discount code or another just about every week from them. Go ahead, check the box. And one more thing. If I’m considering a purchase from a particular store in the future I sign up for their email specials as well. Let me know which companies send you good email specials.

When shopping, try to do some research to make sure you’re getting the best deal. Go online and check out different sources. Check local places. Prices for things like computer memory very greatly from vendor to vendor, depending on who makes the memory, what warranty it has and the mark up of the place selling it. Memory can be purchased quite reasonably most of the time, provided you find the right place to buy it from because there is good mark up on memory. If you find a company that manufactures their own memory selling it you’ll usually get a better price than if you just found a reseller selling that same memory.

Put that to the song “Looking for love in all the wrong places”.
For over a month now I have been chilly, and my feet are like ice cubes. It’s so bad that I’ve been wearing socks to bed. I did see a doctor last night to discuss circulation. He said I could try some stockings during the day. I’m not quite clear on how that would help at night, but figured it was worth trying. So onto the internet I went, looking for good pricing on knee high stockings. Imagine my surprise when I clicked on a link for what I thought I was looking for and I ended up on a page full of body stockings on sale. Somehow I don’t think these are what the doctor was recommending.

I’m referring to the Coupon Chief, of course. The Coupon Chief is a site that offers nothing but online coupons and coupon codes. The site is nicely organized, and allows searching by store, category or coupon. They offer an area where you can see the most recently added coupons, which is great if you visit on a regular basis. You are even able sign up to subscribe to their rss feed if you want to receive alerts when new coupons are added. Next time you’re online looking for coupon codes, be sure to check Coupon Chief.

You’ve probably seen text link ads for mesothelioma. They’re everywhere, and they frequently link to lawyers. Today I clicked on one and it took me to what appeared to be a mesothelioma health and information site. That in itself was a refreshing change. I haven’t previously encountered any site on this topic that has so much information. The site discusses treatments, symptoms, diagnosis, helpful sites, information, specialists and news. The site even offers visitors a free book of common questions and answers, just for asking. As I got to the bottom of the page, I noticed a banner for a lawyer, labeled as a sponsor. That made sense. Then I noticed below that in tiny print the footer contained the words websites for law firms. Sneaky, sneaky! And I thought it was meant to be a free resource site.
