Want to win some cash?

Everyone likes cash. I mean, come on, this site itself began as a site about pets and saving money. And it’s easier to save money if you have some, so I’m going to tell you how to earn a chance to win some money and check out some recipes for meals that won’t cost you an arm and a leg to make. My blogging gal pal Lori over at My Wooden Spoon is running a contest right now and the prize is $25. All you have to to do earn an entry is leave a comment on the contest announcement. It’s quick, easy and painless. And best of all free! You can earn an additional entry for blogging about the contest, as well as an additional entry if you vote for her blog. So go enter. If you win, you can buy yourself and your pet a nice little treat.

Want to enter an easy contest?

I’m running contests on 4 blogs this month (February) in honor of American Heart Month. Visit I know EVERYTHING - just ask my hubby, Val’s Views, Computer Chit Chat and Fun, Crafts and Recipes to enter. EDIT TO ADD ONE MORE on Home and Vacation. All contests will end at 11:59 pm est Friday February 29, 2008. Good luck to all that enter!
This announcement will stay at the top of the page for all of February.

Play the Game O Love

Have you heard about Overstock.com’s Valentine’s Day game? Overstock.com is hosting a contest called the Game O Love. The contest begins tomorrow, January 25 and runs until February 11. The game isn’t live yet, so all I can see is the little description on the front of the site, which reads “Pick your Valentine’s Day gift from thousands of prizes and let your sweetheart win great prizes for you the old fashioned way…By force”. I’m terribly intrigued.

Obviously since this is the internet we’re not talking about arm wrestling, dueling or a shootout at high noon. I’m very curious about the use of the phrase “by force”. Maybe it’s a light saber online game? Wow, I wish I knew. But, since the contest isn’t live and viewable yet and I don’t know the details, I’m left using my imagination.

If I’ve read the blurb correctly the contest will involve people picking out prizes. My hubby generally gets me a decent Valentine’s Day gift, but I usually get him a great Valentine’s Day gift. Now I know he’d love to thrill me, but I think he sometimes isn’t sure what to get or maybe can’t afford it. So for this Valentine’s Day I’d like to get him something he’s sure to enjoy. What is it, you ask? Simply put, it would be a gift for me that I’d love. Creative, yes?

I looked through the site and everywhere I clicked I found things I’d like to have. Books, cds, dvds, digital picture frames, televisions, stereos. You name it, they’ve got it. I even found furniture I’d like. But I needed to find something I’ve really love to have. And then I did. I found the digital camcorders. They had some really nice ones, but I really like the JVC GZMG130US Everio 30gb Hard Drive Camcorder. I’ve been wanting to get a digital camcorder for a while, and the more I look at them the more I want one. This one has a hard drive and can accept sd cards, and it takes both video and still photos. Very cool!

Well, you know where I’ll be heading tomorrow when I turn on my computer. Straight to Overstock.com’s “Game O Love”. What would you like to win for your sweetheart? What would you like your sweetheart to win for you? Comment and let me know if you’ve entered and what you’re hoping for.

I entered a neat contest today. The prize is $20. If you like words, this one’s for you. To enter you just read through the Words to Know on the It’s Write Now blog. You’ll need to be able to leave a comment on this post using four of the words to know. Easy! Go try it, it’s fun. I’m in, I wrote mine today. I’ve pasted it below.

“I thought of my mother immediately when I read about this contest. My mother often considers herself as a deipnosophist, although many people actually think of her as a sesquipedalian. I love her dearly but I dread the frequent somniferous telephone conversations with her that she so seems to enjoy. I should be safe this weekend, as my hirsute uncle is in town for a holiday visit and staying at her house.”

Discussing our next major family vacation

Recently we have been discussing our next major family vacation. We know we will be going to Walt Disney World again, probably in 2009. We all want to do another cruise, but when we do that will depend on if we decide to try and do a family trip with my parents and/or a brother. We’re also considering other locations, and one that both my hubby and myself are interested in is New Orleans.

My husband has never been to New Orleans. I traveled to New Orleans with my parents and one brother when I was a teenager. I was amazed by everything I saw there. It’s been a very long time, and I’m a lot older now, so to make sure that some places are still there and some tours still exist we’d be best off going through a place like Trusted Tours and Attractions. When my family was there we walked the French Quarter, saw Jackson Square and the St Louis Cathedral, toured the Garden District and visited the Audubon Zoo. The place I remember most vividly is Cafe du Monde on Riverwalk. That was the first time I had cafe au lait and beignets. They were so good I can still remember the smell and taste. If you’re ever in New Orleans you must stop there.

We’re not going to be able to travel to New Orleans for a while but in the meantime we’re signed up for the Trusted Travel eNewsletter. Everyone who signs up for the eNewsletter is entered into the contest for an iPod Nano, which ends 12/31/07. I have to go make some coffee now, thanks to my little trip down memory lane.
