Vistaprint has added some products recently. Me and my Dad have gotten business cards from them for a while and have always been pleased with the product and the value. It’s been a couple of months since I ordered last. I needed a notepad, and as always when I went to the Vistaprint site I couldn’t help myself and got more than what I’d gone there for. I went there to get one of the free personalized note pads. By the time I was finished shopping I also had one of the free rubber stamps and a free customized pen. I saw some other free things (notecards, a tshirt, a hat and a car door magnet) I wouldn’t mind trying as well but I have to go back when I have a little more time to decide how I’d customize them. I even saw some free things I don’t need right now like invitations and post cards. Wow, have they come a long way since they started out with the business cards! In an effort to get people to write more letters the US Postal Service is offering people a free card, with postage, to send to a friend. When I heard this the first thing I wondered is how they were paying for this campaign since postage is going up soon, but then I learned that HBO is paying for the campaign to help promote their original mini-series entitled “John Adams”. You can get your free card online by going to poweroftheletter.com and clicking on Free John Adams Greeting Card. The John Adams mini-series premiers on HBO today.

I like getting product samples because they let me try something new without spending any money. I’ve always just requested samples when I accidentally found a link or someone let me know about some, but this week I went looking for sites that were all about free samples. We always serve turkey on Thanksgiving. Most years I get my turkey for free from the grocery store. I do most of my grocery shopping at Shop Rite, but other grocery stores in the area offer similar promotions. Usually the offer is something like spend $150 in about a six week period and you get a small turkey or spend $300 or you get a large one. We always get the large. I’ve always spent more than enough to qualify. It works out well for me because the big birds I get easily cost $20 minimum. So if you’re looking for a way to save a little bit on Thanksgiving dinner, see if a grocery store in your area has a similar offer.

What do you do with things you no longer need? Many people throw them away. When I have something (not garbage) that I don’t need anymore, I post it on my local Freecycle board. Freecycle is a network of people on a city, county or state level that all work together to ease landfill use and recycle items. It’s free to join, and the biggest rule is whatever you list you must be giving away for free. Once you’re approved for your local network, you are able to post for items you’re offering as well as items you might be in need of. We’ve given away some toys, games, clothes and computer items. We’ve received a desk and a really nice dresser. It’s a wonderful concept and I recommend it. Interested? Go to www.freecycle.org to find your local group.
