Three Reasons To Shop Online During The Holidays

online shopping

I love online shopping. It’s awesome year round, because of the time it saves me. But I find it most helpful and invaluable during the holiday season. The biggest benefits of online shopping is not having to go to the store or mall. No hunting for a parking spot! No crowds. No lines. Nice! The second biggest benefit is that with online shopping you can buy online and then ship directly to the gift recipient – not needed for everyone but a big help to the last minute shopper. The third biggest benefit is the ability to compare pricing without going from store to store, or without making one phone call after another. What do you like, or dislike, about online shopping at the holidays?

Favorite Cat Toys

Cat Toy Mice

There are a lot of cat toys on the market. The new cat owner most assuredly walks down the aisle wondering which toy their new cat or kitten will enjoy. Popular toys include stuffed toys, catnip toys, chase toys and balls. Since your new cat can’t just shop for himself with gift cards online, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Stuffed cat toys are popular. Cats like to grab and bite things. Just be sure that the toy you select doesn’t have anything harmful or anything tiny that shouldn’t be ingested.Sometimes cats become so attached to stuffed toys that they not only play with them but they also sleep with them

Catnip toys are almost always a hit. There are toys with catnip in them and then toys with catnip on them. I’ve always found that the toys with catnip in them seemed to be appreciated more. Cats can play hard, and then sleep hard, after time with a catnip toy.

Fishing type toys are great. They allow the cat to chase small prey and get exercise. The best thing about these toys is the interactivity with you, since you are the one holding the stick.

Play can be healthy and is necessary. Find the right toys and your cat will enjoy play time even more.

Why Cat Towers Are A Great Toy For New Kittens

Cat Tower

Climbing towers may seem expensive to some but I think they’re well worth it. Climbing towers allow a cat to have fun and exercise while protecting other areas of your home. By climbing on the tower your cat may not climb your drapes or tall furniture. By scratching/sharpening his claws on a part of a tower your cat may leave the rest of your furniture alone – unshredded. Some of the larger towers even have an area where a cat can hide, which also makes a nice napping spot. You can hang other toys from a tower, allowing your cat to really enjoy playing with those toys. We spent $150 on a five level cat tower about twenty yers ago. My husband questioned the purchase, along with my sanity. Our cat loved that tower. He played in it daily for years. He always sharpened his claws on it, completely shredding one whole section but preserving all of our furniture. If you have a kitten or are planning on getting one then you need to consider getting a cat tower.

Tips For Bathing Your Cat

Cat Bath

Cats generally do a great job of keeping themselves clean. From time to time you may find it necessary to assist, if your cat is really dirty, or is sick or older. Please note that a bath seems to have no effect on htc desire or cats in heat, just in case you’re wondering.)

My first tip is to start bathing your cats young. Even though they may not need the bath from you it will get them into the habit of being bathed.

My second tip is to bathe the cat in a sink. Tubs seem like a good idea but they’re larger and to me the cats seem a bit more frightened when they see the tub. It’s also a lot easier to bathe the cat comfortably if you’re standing, rather than kneeling.

Have everything you need to give the bath handy. You don’t want to stop part way through giving a bath because you forgot something. You’ll need shampoo and a towel.

I find it works best to bathe my cats having them standing in the sink, but not filling the sink with water. I’ve had the most success by letting warm water run gently while bathing them. They’re less frightened because they’re not immersed and you don’t have to deal with the water turning on and off.

Follow the directions on the shampoo. Be gentle and patient, and speak to your cat throughout the bath.

Good luck!

The Cat In The Hard Hat

Cat In Hard Hat

I’ve mentioned before that thinking about cats living life like we humans do sometimes amuses me. I found a picture online that really cracked me up. You’ve heard of the cat in the hat? Meet the cat in the hard hat! If there were cats with construction jobs, this is what a supervisor might look like. Cute and funny!

Double Litter Box

I mentioned previously that we got a new kitten, Juliet. It’s been almost two months and she and Romeo are getting along better and better every day. The only time they really disagree is when she wants to play (which is always being she’s a kitten) and he doesn’t. Once in a while if I don’t get to the box quickly enough Romeo will show his displeasure by pooping just in front of the box. It’s not fun to walk into the room and find out it’s there by accidentally stepping on it, makes me wish like I was wearing riding boots. I got to wondering if I should add a second box. I like the litter boxes that are enclosed. I looked online for an enclosed double cat box, something that would house two separate litter boxes under one lid. Surprisingly I couldn’t find one! I don’t really want two separate litter boxes in the same room. Have you ever seen an enclosed double litter box?

Juliet And The Soggy Blankets

Recently we gained a new family member, a Siamese kitten that we named Juliet. We don’t know her exact age but when we got her her shots the vet’s best guess was she was about two months old at that time, which would make her about four months old now. She’s adorable. She’s very cuddly and very curious and loves to play. She does have one annoying habit, she sucks on all sorts of fabric. She’ll suck on the blanket, your shirt, your shoes, anything with material, kneading away at the same time. I was hoping she’d outgrow it but there’s been no sign of that yet. I think maybe she’d been weaned early and that’s why. My Mom had a cat that kneaded and sucked on blankets and never stopped. I’m hoping that’s not the case here. Have you ever had a kitten that did this?

Graduation Gear

Eighth grade is a very memorable year in a persons life. The end of their middle school life and the start of their high school careers. One part however about middle school that my son did not like would be the graduation. For this occasion they request that all students wear formal attire. Most kids did not like this rule but put up with it anyway. On the bright side they did not have to wear bow ties. A bit of a downer for me was that they didn’t wear caps and gowns. Cats look so cute in caps, I know the kids would have looked even better.
