On Cats And Tables

Kitchen Table

Do you allow your cats on the table? I mean the kitchen or dining room table of course. I don’t have super expensive furniture or anything, not that it would matter if it were expensive or even rustic dining furniture. I just really don’t like the cats getting up there. Our older male cat never went on the table in the first year we got him. Then he started going up there and we haven’t been able to get him to stop. He never goes up there when we’re eating. Our younger cat now goes up there from time to time, presumable because he sees the other cat up there. I’ve tried shooing them, squirting water and gently smacking their behinds. It only makes them leave the trable but does not prevent them from doing it again. Do or did your cats get up on the table? How did you handle it?

Strange Places Cats Go

Does your cat like to get into things they shouldn’t? Romeo, the cat I have now, loves to explore and climb in places he shouldn’t be. Lately we’ve caught him climbing up to sit on top of the speakers. One night when he was up there he attacked my husband’s head! He’s also been found on top of the top shelf of my desk. My son has one of those entertainment centers in his room where his television and video games are, he found the cat hiding on one of the shelves recently. The oddest place Romeo has been frequenting is the sink, where RB has seen him four times this week. What’s the oddest place your cat goes?

Furnishing For Kitty Comfort

Are you into cat furniture? I remember I’d never heard of or thought of furniture just for cats until the 1980s, when I got my Nikki. I enjoyed his kittenhood so much that I found myself buying anything in sight that he would enjoy. Back then all I ever saw were different kinds of scratching posts. I bought him one that was a 6 foot tall cat tree, made with real wood and carpet. He actually used it so often that he shredded the carpet. My Mom’s cat had a similar tree and never used it. Now I see more modern furniture out there on the market. There are actual pieces made just for cats. Maybe I’d appreciate those more if I had a bigger house. But then, I’m also content with my cat sitting on my furniture. Do you think cats need their own furniture? I don’t – most cats can make themselves comfortable anywhere they want. Do you think they care if they have it? I think they’d prefer to be closer to their human.
